Terrible Wasteland
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Terrible Wasteland is a game play overhaul which strips away the user friendliness of the vanilla game and makes the wasteland a harsher environment.
Radstorms are more deadly and the weather is crappier
Most containers have already been looted
The HUD has been removed
Locks are more difficult to pick (Harder Lockpicking will be included soon or you can try its current version, and more skills will be made more difficult as the mod progresses)
Terrible Wasteland also provides more freedom for balancing the game in many different ways. There are optional starting SPECIAL and Perk packages that allow for many different character builds from dialogue or luck based characters to stealth and combat based characters; and it increases the overall challenge of the game for all play styles by making necessary crafting components more difficult to scavenge and the environment more hostile. Terrible Wasteland does not modify creatures or combat or spawns, allowing you to use other mods that do for your own preferred level of combat engagements. You can even craft new Lockjoint Syringer Ammo and try to avoid combat entirely.
If you’re also currently using many of the included mods, Terrible Wasteland may reduce your load order by 15 or more .esp files; and Terrible Wasteland simplifies the process of drastically altering the vanilla game for anyone who is new to modding. As long as you’ve made the necessary changes to the .ini files that all mods require, you can now activate the combined effects of over a dozen great mods with a single .esp.
A special thanks to illyria311, ShadoWarrior, shaikujin, Onikitsune and the many others who have helped improve my mods with helpful bug reports, criticism, suggestions and feedback.
Extended Description
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Adds more SPECIAL Points to character creation and gives the player inherent perks. Use with the optional files from the New Character Creation mod to create a variety of different starting stat arrangements for different characters, including closely replicating different Fallout 3 starting characters with 40 SPECIAL points and 3 TAG perks. Make sure these optional files load after Terrible Wasteland.esp, the master’s will not be set for them. If you prefer the vanilla starting stats, or don’t want to alter the perks of your save game, there is also an optional download TW Vanilla Starting Stats.

Merges the combined atmospheric effects of Fr4nsson’s Light Tweaks, Deadly Radstorms and More Common Weather for an environment that is almost always crappy or deadly. Compatible with True Storms – Wasteland Edition in two ways. Load True Storms – Wasteland Edition after Terrible Wasteland to fully apply all of the effects of True Storms. Or, don’t use True Storm’s optional Climate.esp and load Terrible Wasteland after True Storms to apply the lighting changes of Fr4nsson’s Light Tweaks, the frequency of More Common Weather, the intensity of Deadly Radstorms and the duration, visual and audio enhancements of True Storms – Wasteland Edition. Also fully compatible with Darker Nights.

Integrates Better Item Sorting for a (wip) complete inventory sorting option that is compatible with New Dialog, and may be more compatible with heavy building and crafting mods like OCDecorator, Snap and Build Greenhouses and SSEx than keyword sorting methods. See the SSEx mod page for information on the limit to craftable or buildable items.

Layerable Apparel allows for incredible attribute bonuses and increases the player’s potential damage and energy resistances to over 1000 without equipping power armor, by eliminating the slot conflicts between items like backpacks, gloves, scarves, and bandannas and allowing all of the cloth based items to have the Vault Tec and Railroad crafting mods applied. This includes eliminating the equipment slot conflicts and adding the crafting mods to all of the new items that are introduced to the game through great mods like Jackets and Coats of the Commonwealth, Wearable Postman’s Shoulder Bag and Wasteland Scarves. When used with the Wasteland Baubles mod over 130 rings can be equipped in many different combinations of 4 rings at a time. All items are searchable in the console command by their equipment slot using their (tags). To display all of the items that equip to the mask slot, type ~ help “mask” 4 ~ in the console.

Terrible Wasteland does not contain any Armor records and is known to be fully compatible with Craftable Custom Combat Armor, Custom Legendary Modifications, Craftable Armor Size, Awesome Armor Mods and Eli’s Armour Collection (to the extent that these mods remain compatible with each other).

Improves the visibility and usefulness of the Pipboy map with the Improved Maps mod.

Strips away some of the user friendliness of the vanilla game for a more immersive and challenging experience with No Hud and Adaptive Crosshair and Less Loot and Ammo mods. No Hud completely removes the HUD from the screen which keeps user friendly information from displaying; the names of items you’re looking at, the compass and markers, HP and AP are all removed from the screen and can only be checked in the Pipboy or companion app. No HUD will force you to be immersed or constantly be bewildered. Less Loot and Ammo does exactly that, removing up to 95% of the loot and ammo found in containers throughout the wasteland. No more level 20 characters with 100 bobby pins and stimpaks and radaways, you will need to be thrifty to survive in this wasteland without the console commands on any difficulty level, and it will force you to go deeper into every dungeon to find what little loot remains after 200 years of raider looting and scavengers.

Adds a new hygiene mechanic mod called Paper Street Soap Co., which grants a 24 hour bonus to Charisma when Soap or Toothpaste are used with a Wash Rag and Toothbrush. “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”

Also includes Lowered Weapons, Survival Syringer Ammo, Cage and Spike Armor, Lucky Grey Scarf, and Pipboy Medical Unit.

Adds over 100 new items to the game which are available at DC Surplus.

Please show your support to the following mod authors for allowing their work to be used in another project

Fr4nnson – Fr4nsson’s Light Tweaks
Xylozi – Deadly Radstorms
tASE – More Common Weather
xandarori – Better Item Sorting
mm137 – Improved Maps
zalteredbeastz – No Hud and Adaptive Crosshair
FogZZZ – Less Loot and Ammo
lesma666 – Lowered Weapons
All of these mods should be disabled and/or uninstalled before installing Terrible Wasteland. It should be fine to load any optional files from the included mods after Terrible Wasteland to apply the optional changes from those files, but I haven’t tested this yet and any feedback is appreciated.

Also uninstall the following of my mods if you have them installed

Layerable Apparel
Paper Street Soap Co.
Survival Syringer Ammo
Cage and Spike Armor
Lucky Grey Scarf
Pipboy Medical Unit
New Character Creation – Terrible Wasteland includes the main file from New Character Creation – 49 SPECIAL Points and Starting Perks. Deactive SurvivalStartingPerks.esp if you have it. It is fine to use the SPECIAL and TAG optional files from New Character Creation to configure different characters with different starting stats. Follow the guidelines on the New Character Creation mod page. If you prefer the vanilla starting stats, or don’t want to alter the perks of your save game, there is also an optional download TW Vanilla Starting Stats file.

At this time, do not use Terrible Wasteland with mods that add new apparel items unless a patch is available. If you would like a patch available for a specific mod please mention it in the comments.

Terrible Wasteland does not include the optional installers from the mods included, instead the options that I felt may be the most balanced for use with each other have been chosen and integrated into Terrible Wasteland. The best balance will come from the feedback of your long term gaming, such as increasing the radiation damage from rad storms more, or not reducing loot and ammo as much, so please post them in the comments. See the More Details section for which options were included (will be updated soon).

After properly cleaning up your game directories from previous installations of included mods, extract Terrible Wasteland to your Data folder manually or with NMM. Terrible Wasteland and the Terrible Wasteland – Patch.esp should be the last two files in your load order. If you’re also using the Wasteland Baubles mod, Wasteland Baubles TW should load after Terrible Wasteland. Thanks again to Batta0909 for the great work on Wasteland Baubles.

More Details/FAQ
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Terrible Wasteland is best applied to a new game so that you can distribute the additional SPECIAL points during character creation, but it is not necessary to start a new game for the perks to apply to a character which does not already have them. If you start a new game, choose to “Exit Vault 111” without redistributing SPECIAL points. Choosing to redistribute SPECIAL points in the vault elevator will lock you into the SPECIAL menu until you forfeit the extra points granted by the mod and have vanilla stats again. See the New Character Creation mod page for more details.
Terrible Wasteland is also most balanced for harder difficulty levels and Custom Legendary Enemy Spawning or similar mods.
Everything has installed properly for me through NMM and all of the combined effects seem to be working properly upon my initial testing. Please use Bug Reports instead of comments and please be as specific as possible, the Terrible Wasteland.esp contains over 2000 individual records in around 20 categories and countless individual changes to each record. If you encounter a bug, please verify that it persists with only the Terrible Wasteland.esp installed, or include the load order that causes the bug in your bug report.
If you’re upgrading from one of my other mods, especially Layerable Apparel or Pipboy Medical Unit, first load a save and unequip everything except the vanilla Pipboy before upgrading. You will need to outfit a save character from Layerable Apparel. It may be possible to rename the Terrible Wasteland.esp to Layerable Apparel to perfectly carry over an upgrade to a save game but this has not been tested yet. If you try it please let me know what you find out.
Pipboy Workarounds
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To switch between Pipboy models, first hotkey any of the PIpboys from the apparel menu as you would a chem or weapon – as suggested by Onikitsune. Then, either switch directly from one Pipboy to another within the Pipboy menu, or close the Pipboy menu and use the hotkey to swap. If you accidentally unequip the Pipboy without having one assigned to a hotkey, the console command to equip the vanilla Pipboy is “player.equipitem 21b3b”.

If the Pipboy Companion stops working when you install the mod – most likely on a save game – add the Vault 111 Suit to your inventory to get it working again. If you don’t have the Vault Suit in a workbench somewhere, the console command is “player.additem 1eed7”.
