Silver Submachine Gun Receiver
WHAT IT DOES
Creates a new (non-replacer) silver receiver for the Silver Submachine Gun from the Silver Shroud quest.
Why? Because I was thoroughly underwhelmed by a unique gun that has the exact same bloody parts and stats as an underpowered vanilla weapon, and just a different texture.
UNFORTUNATELY, my attempts at making Kent give you this with the gun have failed. It seems like his script overrides my gun definition. So the previous attempt was broken.
So instead, you’ll have to craft it yourself at any weapons workstation.
Which unfortunately also makes it non-unique again, since you can make as many silver-plated machineguns (and yes, they will get the silver texture) as you wish. Any other machineguns created that way will be named “Heavy Submachine Gun” instead, though, since I still wanted to keep the Silver Submachine Gun name unique. Nothing is keeping you from renaming them yourself, though. If you want them called Silver Submachine Gun, just rename them.
Anyway, what the Silver Receiver does is:
– slightly increased damage, compared to standard, but not as much as the powerful receiver
– slightly better fire rate than the rapid receiver
– it has a random stagger effect, much less powerful than the legendary ones (so you’re not gonna stagger Liberty Prime or anything), but fires much more often for an automatic weapon
– it has a bleed effect too, about half as powerful as the legendary one
– and the REAL kicker, in VATS it shoots 10 round bursts like a minigun, since at this point it actually has slightly higher rate of fire than the tri-gun minigun
So it will still be a good weapon outside VATS. Not over the top. Not even endgame rating, in fact. But when you hit VATS and put 10 bullets in someone’s head, well, it will do a lot more damage for your AP than a regular SMG, but still less than a Gatling Laser or such, so it’s still not particularly unbalanced.
At any rate, you get the idea. I wanted it to be different and relatively powerful, but above all, different. It’s not just a +100% damage.
I wasn’t actually going to release this, since it involves either messing with the console OR making it craftable and thus non-unique. But then I mentioned it accidentally in a thread and people started requesting it, so here it is. I still dunno how to solve that conundrum, but I’m sure some of you will give me some ideas in the comments.
Made with FO4Edit, if anyone cares about that kinda thing.
HOW TO GET IT
There are 2 ways:
1. Craft it at any weapons workstation. It just needs Gun Nut level 2 and a bunch of materials, including obviously silver.
2. If you want it without learning Gun Nut… oh boy, you’re in for some messing with the console. Do EXACTLY the steps here, unless you know exactly why not.
– crouch and drop the gun on the floor in front of you
– SAVE
– pull up the console
– click on the gun, with the console still active
– if it says you selected a non-AV object, try clicking somewhere else on the gun. If it keeps doing that, reload the save you just made and try again. This is important. Don’t just modify the non-AV object or you’ll confuse the game by giving some floor tile or mist layer a gun receiver.
– make sure it says a reference id there at the top of the console
– type “help silver 0 omod” in the console, without the quotes
– it should give you an ID like “2A000800” for the “Silver Receiver”. The first two digits are actually based on the number of the mod in your load order, so it will be different for each of you
– type “amod xxxxxxxx” in the console, without the quotes, and replacing the xxxxxxxx with the ID you just got at the previous step
– close the console, pick up your gun, enjoy
If that sounds intimidating… well, actually it’s easier and safer than it sounds, if you do exactly what I wrote. But now you know why the crafting is the preferred method.
HOW TO INSTALL IT
The state of the launcher being what it is at the moment, namely that it bloody disables mods, your best bet is NMM, unless you know exactly how to do it by hand.
HOW TO UNINSTALL IT
With NMM, or just delete the SilverReceiver.esp plugin from your Data directory.
KNOWN CONFLICTS
None. It should not conflict with anything now, since it no longer overwrites the base gun record. It’s just an extra craftable receiver, that’s all.
It is compatible with SMG retextures.
It is compatible with all legendary effects, since it’s just a receiver, not a legendary effect.
It is compatible with the “2 Legendary Modifications” mod, but it doesn’t make the Silver Submachine Gun take 2 legendary modifications. If you want a silver 2LM SMG, you will need to craft a SMG at the 2LM workbench and then craft or move the Silver Receiver to it. Or add it with the console.
LEGALESE
I releas it into the public domain. There’s really nothing that original about it, since it uses Bethesda’s textures. And I’m not going to start hounding people just because they edited the same entries in FO4Edit or anything.
SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION
If you’re a fan of sneaking, and maybe want a sneaky suit to go with your silver machinegun, you might (or might not) want to have a look at the following stealth gear too:
– Shadowed Silver Shroud
– Shadowed Synth Armour
