A Vibrant Reshade Preset for Fallout 4
By Rhaenysa
If you’ve been looking for a way to make your Wasteland less dried out and dead — boy, do I have the Reshade preset for you! RUBY is a preset that enhances the vibrancy of Fallout 4, mostly in the red and blue shades. Your reds will be VERY red, and generally your blues will be nice and colorful as well. If you’re sick of looking at various shades of yellow-brown, this may be your solution. Keep in mind, it makes your game probably a little less “lore-friendly”, but fuck it, right?
Keep in mind that at times, your reds may be a bit TOO red, or your blues may be over the top. This preset looks best in normal daytime light (not early mornings where everything has an orange hue — the reds go CRAZY because of that) and at night or in darker locations. This preset also darkens your shadows, so watch out for that as well. Let me say, this preset was made for myself and my ridiculous love of colorful screenshots, so if you’re into that, check it out! If not, maybe stick to a more “natural” preset (one of mine coming soon)!
HOW TO INSTALL
First things first, download the Reshade Framework
Next, you’ll want to extract from the ZIP file that you just downloaded a folder called “Reshade” and the file “Reshade.fx”. You can ignore the rest of the files in the ZIP (they’re mostly for if you want to make a preset yourself).
Then, put the “Reshade” folder and “Reshade.fx” file into your Fallout 4 directory. This is typically located at “\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4”. DO NOT PUT IT IN YOUR DATA FOLDER.
Next up, download the RUBY Reshade Preset ZIP here. You gotta do it manually. No NMM here.
Extract all the files from the RUBY Reshade Preset ZIP.
Copy and paste all those files into your Fallout 4 directory (again, typically at “\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4”. Not your data folder. The same place you put the framework.)
When you get a pop-up that asks if you want to copy and replace — YES, copy and replace for all conflicts. When it asks to merge the “Reshade” folder — YES.
YOU DONE, MY GUY.
F.A.Q.
Q: How do I install this?
A: Literally read the description. It’s right there above you.
Q: EVERYTHING IS SO RED.
A: True.
Q: What kind of performance do you get with this preset?
A: I lost a few frames, but nothing major. That being said, I run a fairly decent-performance system. Lower end systems may have trouble. Let me know if you do and I’ll attempt to make a performance friendlier version.
Q: This makes my map reaaaaaaally hard to read.
A: Me too, bud. Try adjusting your pip-boy/HUD colors in the Settings, see if you can find something that works for you. I’m trying to fix this, but it’s an issue of contrast. I like the high contrast preset, but it makes the HUD and menus look like absolute shit. We’ll see what we can do. Stick around for updates.
Q: Are the initial screenshots in super low settings?
A: Shit. Yes. I forgot to change it for screenshots. SORRY. I was testing another mod I was making before taking the screenshots, had my quality settings on super low so it would run really easily, and forgot to change it back when I took screenshots. Fuck. I’m dumb. I’ll upload more in a while.
The new, higher quality screenshots have been uploaded!
Leave me any questions you have and I’ll update this.
