Indiana Valentine – 2k Brown Retexture For Worn Fedora

Howdy folks. So I was recently playing Fallout 4 and decided that the game needed a cowboy hat. Well after console-adding every brimmed hat to my inventory, trying them all on, and deciding that none of them looked remotely like a cowboy hat, I went looking for retextures. Finding none, I decided to make one. I picked Valentine’s hat because, honestly, shape-wise it’s a lot closer to a beat-up cowboy hat than a true fedora (though any wool hat will look like that if you get it soaking wet and neglect to reshape it). I recolored it brown, did some texture magic (Note: I barely know how to use GIMP. I honestly have no idea what most of the buttons do. But you have to start somewhere, right?), went in game, decided it was way too shiny (for real Bethesda, wool hats aren’t shiny), discovered I have no idea how specular maps work, and eventually got it looking halfway decent. Then I stole a leather texture from somebody on Deviantart (EDITOR’S NOTE: It wasn’t actually theft, texture linked below, pls don’t ban me mod police), screwed around for a few more hours, and decided to post it. It turned out to look less like a cowboy hat and more like a beat-up slouch hat or if Shia Lebouf treated Indiana Jones’s hat as poorly as he treated his lines in Crystal Skull, but I’m satisfied for now. Looks good enough to wear around the Wasteland as I live out my old Western sheriff fantasies (or my Tea Party militia fantasies, I really, really like the Minutemen).

Base texture is the 2k Valentine Clothes hat texture, made by Wolbryne, who is really chill. Go download his mod, then mine, and let mine overwrite. Then endorse him, he’s a cool guy. Or don’t go download his, but you’re missing out folks.
His mod may be found here: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8051/?

Aforementioned leather texture I stole is here, for fair use purposes and whatnot. I have no idea how informal internet IP standards work, just feels like I should show you where I got stuff. http://beckas.deviantart.com/art/brown-leather-texture-145736657

Mods I’m using:
Way too flippin’ many. But for what my character is wearing:
Badass Vault Dweller Long Coat: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7096/? (I use the road leathers)
Eferas’ modified light leather armor mesh: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7630/?
Real Leather HD Road Leathers: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7797/? (I use the low specular map version)
There will be a difference between the V.5 pics and the V1 pics, because I updated a few mods in between.

If for some unknown reason you prefer a boring wool-colored drab brown hat band, I’ll upload V.5 too as an optional file. Until then, the .dds is actually in the .zip file, and you can replace it fairly easily. The name is self-explanatory, and NMM will probably put it in your FO4 directory (where the .exe is). I probably won’t deal with that this weekend though, as my internet sucks RN.

At the moment this is a replacer, which kinda sucks because Triggermen in Goodneighbor and (obviously) Nick Valentine will also wear the hat, but I’m both lazy and ignorant of FO4Edit. So for now, it’s a replacer. V2 will be standalone and maybe craftable. Maybe I’ll even make a proper Indy hat out of the Formal Hat mesh. Or maybe I’ll disappear off the face of the Nexus. Flip a coin.

And thus ends the single longest description of any retexture ever *sniff. But it was fun while it lasted, wasn’t it? *sobbing*
