Higher Female Children Voice (Japanese)

You would think the Japanese dub would have child voices well-covered, at least compared to what the English version got. Ironically, because the coordinator of the Japanese dub did such a great job of matching the original voices, the end result is that the voices for female children in the Japanese dub share the same exact problems with the English dub: Some are too old, and some are voiced by 30-somethings with no real effort (or skill) to hide the fact. Anyone who has watched their fair share of anime knows this shouldn’t have happened, but it did. And so, once again, I am here to offer my corrective services.

Here are some case-by-case notes:

Meg, Erin Reische, et al – A large degree of variability, forcing me to pick a balance and stick with it.

Nina Rodriguez – For some reason sounds literally like a 30-year-old woman with no effort to disguise this. Kind of unbelievable.

Marlene’s holotape(s) – Surprisingly, the dub here already sounds childlike. No modification needed.

Julia Thompson – The English voice was one of those 30-somethings trying to sound like a child. I am convinced that the Japanese dub is an effort to faithfully reproduce the ridiculously artificial result. Congratulations are in order, because Julia Thompson still sounds like an older woman doing her best child impersonation. In fact it sounds awful. There is unfortunately very little that can be done to fix it.

Installation (as of 2015-12-27):

1. Follow the Fallout 4 Mod Installation guide to learn the latest method for setting up custom mods.

2. Add the name of the esp file of your chosen voice type (for example: “Higher Female Protagonist Voice (Japanese) – Type A4.esp”) to the plugins.txt file, which is typically located in C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Fallout4.

3. Extract the contents of the archive to your Fallout4\Data\ directory.

Uninstall:

1. Remove the archive’s extracted contents from your Fallout4\Data\ directory.

2. Remove the name of the esp file from your plugins.txt file.

Other:

Although I can follow the Japanese language reasonably well, I am not so good at composing text, so I did not bother. I don’t expect this to be much of a barrier.

I hope this mod is of use to others.
