Higher Female Children Voice

Higher Female Children Voice

This mod is an attempt to address the fact that female children in Fallout 4, despite being less than 4.5 feet tall and attending elementary school, sound at best like they’re fixing to graduate from high school. (I will also add that anyone who is ostensibly 15 years old, the age of the voice actress, is generally not as short as an elementary school student.) The processing I employed puts the voice in line with the children found in Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

I do not yet know precisely which children this affects, but at the very least it covers settlers and Erin Reische. If there are further named children to be discovered, I will update this mod as necessary.

A modification of Nina Rodriguez’ voice is provided separately. I reckoned folks might want to keep her sounding like she’s too old for grade school, as her facial countenance, even for children in Fallout 4, is particularly grim and un-childlike.

Installation (as of 2015-11-12):

1. Make sure your Fallout.ini (typically located in C:\Users\(your username)\My Documents\My Games\Fallout4) has had “, Sound\” added to its “sResourceDataDirsFinal=” line, like so:

sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, Sound\

(Eventually, this manual modification should cease being necessary.)

2. Extract the contents of the archive to your Fallout4\Data\ directory.

Uninstallation:

1. Remove the archive’s extracted contents from your Fallout4\Data\ directory.

Other:

It must have been difficult for Bethesda to find an actual female child who could provide some dialogue for them. I’ve learned that the voice actress they picked is 15, which handily explains why they sound like they’re in high school.

2015-11-18: Added the demonstration video to the description text since the “videos” tab isn’t showing for some people.
