Fallout 4 Config
This mod gives you some first information about ini changes for better graphics.
I’m still testing, but got rid of a lod of lod and object plopping, denser grass, more view distance on everything.
Go to
X:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 with X standing for your harddrive.
There we got Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini you can open both with any texteditor like wordpad, Editor…
Make a copy of both, just to be sure as backup.
Had no problem doubling everything (that should be doubled, see description) and setting shadows to 8192 on a geforce 970 without stuttering at all.
Fallout4.Ini:
[General]
uGridsToLoad=5
Enhancing this to values like 7,9,11,13 improves the farther away landscape. But it’s dangerous, skyrim had a lot of problems and bugs with it and you needed a savegame cleaner to go back down.
7 worked without problems, but be aware of the problems that could occure.
uExterior Cell Buffer=36
Maybe the same rules as in Skyrim, but as the engine is improved it might be different.
[Display]
fShadowLODMaxStartFade=1000.0
Draw distance for shadows on far away objects. 10000 or 20k seems to work.
fSpecularLODMaxStartFade=2000.0
Darw distance for lighting on far away objects. 10000 or 20k seems to work.
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=2048
Your primary shadow resolution enhance to 4096 or 8192. 8192 works fine for me
fSAORadius=108.2
fSAOBias=0.6
fSAOIntensity=7.1
Sounds like Ambient Occlusion distance, intensity and Bias.
[SSSSS]
fSSSSSPower = 4.0
Probably subsurfacepower, enhancing this to 5 could give people less of a dead look. Needs testing.
[Interface]
fDefaultWorldFOV=70
fDefault1stPersonFOV=80 Change your field of view
[Grass]
iMinGrassSize=20
Setting this lower should give you denser grass.
[Water]
bReflectLODObjects=0
bReflectLODLand=0
bReflectSky=0
bReflectLODTrees=0
1 activates the reflections.
Fallout4Prefs.ini
[Display]
fDirShadowDistance=20000.0000
fShadowDistance=20000.0000
This could work like in skyrim, higher values could increase the range, but decrease the quality near you. Wouldn’t change it yet.
iShadowMapResolution=4096
Again shadow resolution, change to 8192
fLeafAnimDampenDistEnd=4600.0000
fLeafAnimDampenDistStart=3600.0000
Leaf animation range
fMeshLODLevel2FadeTreeDistance=2048.0000
fMeshLODLevel1FadeTreeDistance=2844.0000
Distance and levels for tree meshes to dissppear, just enhance a few thousand
fInteriorMeshLODLevel2FadeDist=1950.0000
fInteriorMeshLODLevel1FadeDist=2600.0000
Range for interior meshes to degrade in quality and disappear. With both at 5000 you are probably save.
iMaxSkinDecalsPerFrame=25
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=100
Name says it, can probably go a lot higher.
[General]
uGridsToLoad=5
Same as above, should be the same value.
[Particles]
iMaxDesired=750
Higher the better
[TerrainManager]
fTreeLoadDistance=75000.0000
fBlockMaximumDistance=250000.0000
fBlockLevel2Distance=110000.0000
fBlockLevel1Distance=90000.0000
fBlockLevel0Distance=60000.0000
Display ranges for trees and objects. Just enhance proportionate. Doubling worked for me.
[Grass]
fGrassStartFadeDistance=7000.0000
fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=7000.0000
fGrassMinStartFadeDistance=1000.0000
Display range for grass. 25000 works for me
[Decals]
uMaxDecals=1000
uMaxSkinDecals=100
Higher=better
[LOD]
fLODFadeOutMultObjects=30.0000
fLODFadeOutMultItems=10.0000
fLODFadeOutMultActors=15.0000
Probably Lod ranges for those to disappear.
Activate write protection afterwards, just to be sure.
