Chaos at The Castle
Making The Castle Great Again
Preston: Hey General…
Player: I took care of those Gunners at Quincy, what now?
Preston: We need to build a wall around The Castle.
Player: Why?
Preston: To keep the Super Mutants out. They’re ruining the economy.
Player: Uh, okay, what makes you think building a wall will keep them out?
Preston: The Great Wall of China. The Chinese built a wall and for over a thousand years they’ve had
no Super Mutants over there. We build a wall here, no Super Mutants.
Player: How are we going to pay for construction of the wall, and where are we going to get our Heavy Armor
supply from if we don’t have Super Mutants to loot?
Preston: The Super Mutants are going to pay us for construction of the wall. Then we’ll have enough caps to
buy all the heavy armor we need.
Player: I assume you’re also proposing a temporary ban on Ghouls entering the Castle?
Preston: Yes, a total and complete shutdown of Ghouls entering the Castle until the Minutemen can
figure out what is going on.
Player: Okay, so we build the wall, then what?
Preston: When the Super Mutants attack, we’ll be completely surrounded by high walls on all sides with the only
access points through heavily guarded security doors. This will make us safe.
Player: Like in a prison?
Preston: Exactly…well no, wait, that’s not quite what I meant.
Player: What if they dig under the wall or blast a hole through it, or climb over it, or use the tunnels to get in?
We’d be trapped in there.
Preston: What are the odds of that?
Player: I guess we’ll find out…..
Why this mod?
You’ve helped the Minutemen take back The Castle (Taking Independence quest), accessed the Armory (Old Guns quest), and repaired the Castle walls making it an impregnable fortress again, setting up turrets and artillery around the perimeter. Congratulations, your Castle is now officially boring!
Bethesda made settlement building loads of fun, but the reward for building a happy, well-defended settlement is that settlement raids last about 5 seconds. You show up and it’s over. Where’s the fun in that?
The idea behind this mod is that after you fixed up the Castle, the Super Mutants realized they weren’t waltzing in through the front door anymore. So they devised an alternate plan: capture and train some Mole Rats, Radscorpions, and Mirelurks to dig tunnels underneath The Castle. Then let some Feral Ghouls through the tunnels after them and spring an attack from the inside. While your defenses are busy dealing with the monsters popping up from within the Castle, multiple waves of Super Mutant attackers storm the gates from the outside.
What this mod does
Spawns a massive battle at The Castle. Mole Rats, Radscorpions, Ghouls, and Mirelurks attack you from the inside. Super Mutants attack you from the outside.
There are 2 batch files included in the download. Install both in your main game folder and you can choose in-game which to run:
1) CastleFight.txt: “bat CastleFight” console command spawns close to 100 monsters in the courtyard and interior of The Castle at dozens of spawn points, and roughly 50 Super Mutants outside the gates at multiple spawn points. The NPC’s spawned are mostly leveled NPC’s so they should be appropriate to whatever level your character is at, assuming you’re at least level 10.
2) CastleLight.txt: “bat CastleLight” console command spawns only about half as many Super Mutants and monsters.
Warning: This mod is meant to be tough. Due to the number of NPC’s generated it will likely affect your FPS during the battle. Unless you have a good rig you’ll probably want to start with “bat CastleLight” and make sure the performance is acceptable to you before trying “bat CastleFight”.
Survival Tips
This mod spawns Mirelurk Kings in the Armory at The Castle. Do not enter “bat CastleFight” console command until after you’ve completed the quest Old Guns (where you open up the Armory with Ronnie Shaw), otherwise you’re going to have a nasty surprise waiting when you open the armory door.
Careful about shooting into a crowd. If you accidentally hit a settler, your settlers may become hostile. If you see four settlers fighting a ghoul, best to let them take care of it. There are plenty of other bad guys to fight.
Avoid getting backed into a corner. It may be tempting to run into a corner of the Castle interior, but you’ll find monsters there too who can quickly corner and overwhelm you. The safest area is above the castle walls.
With enough missile and laser turrets it is possible to keep the Super Mutants out, in which case you’ll still have a ton of monsters to deal with inside the
walls. But the mod is more fun when keeping defense turrets to a minimum. That way you fight monsters for a few minutes, then you have to deal with the Super Mutants infiltrating the gates.
FAQ
Q: How to install?
A: Download manually. Place both .txt files into your game folder where Fallout4.exe is located (not your data folder). For people using Steam the folder is usually ProgramFiles (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4.
Q: How to uninstall?
A: Remove both text files from your game folder.
Q: How to generate the enemies?
A: Travel to the interior of The Castle, or the courtyard, or on top of the walls, open the console using the ~ key, and type “bat CastleFight” without the quotes, then hit enter and exit the console. Watch chaos ensue.
If you want half as many enemies to spawn instead, type “bat CastleLight”.
Save your game before you generate the enemies. The odds of dying are high.
Q: How is this different than using player.placeatme console command?
A: The“player.placeatme” command places all the enemies right in front of you. This mod strategically places the enemies at dozens of spawn points inside and outside The Castle to make the battle more interesting, last longer, and reduce the probability of getting killed right away. It also generates the enemies with one command rather than fifty.
Q: Does this mod require any other mods?
A: No. But some other mods are likely to add to your enjoyment of this mod. See Recommended Mods list below.
Q: How long does the battle last?
A: Depends on your weapons, defenses, number of companions, etc. Typically around 10 minutes to wipe out all the enemies.
Q: Can you make this mod for other areas or settlements as well?
A: I’m open to suggestions. Already made battles for some other areas. See “My Battle Mods”below.
Q: Will this corrupt or crash my game?
A: There is no .esp file with this, just .txt files that place enemies in the world space, so it won’t corrupt your game. However the game engine has a limit to how much stuff can be going on at once, and the quality of your rig also matters. If the regular “bat CastleFight” command is causing problems, try the “bat CastleLight” command. Don’t enter the console commands until you’re at The Castle, or you may find lots of corpses in unexpected
places in or around The Castle.
Recommended mods (none of these are required):
Settlement Raiding Mod: This lets you generate Raiders, Gunners, Brotherhood of Steel, etc. to attack your settlements. I highly recommend SRM because it features corpse cleanup so the bodies disappear quicker, which will help your performance/FPS if you replay the mod repeatedly
in succession. Also, if you like this mod, chances are you’ll love SRM.
Personal Jetpack, or any mod that adds a jetpack. If you get surrounded by too many enemies, sometimes the only way to avoid dying is to fly out.
Unlimited Followers,or any mod that lets you have more than one companion.
Awesome Armor Effects, or any mod that lets you auto-inject stimpaks, because sometimes you forget until it’s too late.
