BIGGER BETTER BLOODY MESSES

Bigger Better Bloody Messes
“Was that a high-explosive laser-guided magic-bullet or… were you just lucky?”

Many Fallout 4 fans felt that the Bloody Mess Perk wasn’t very useful in the vanilla game.
So I took a dive into the Perk’s game files and made some welcomed changes.

With B.B.B.M enabled & Rank 4 of Bloody Mess:

All Kill-Shots on INTACT Limbs
16%-18% chance for shrapnel to Dismember or Explode ALL enemies within a certain distance of the original target.
Distance -> Mod = 60 -> Vanilla = 25

All Kill-Shots on CRIPPLED Limbs
24%-27% chance for shrapnel to Dismember or Explode ALL enemies within a certain distance of the original target.
Distance -> Mod = 60 -> Vanilla = 25

All Kill-Shots in V.A.T.S.
30%-33% chance for shrapnel to Dismember or Explode ALL enemies within a certain distance of the original target.
Distance -> Mod = 60 -> Vanilla = 25

========================================
The Bloody Mess Perk is now as useful and satisfying as it was always meant to be, without being too overpowered.
It allows the game to showcase it’s capabilities and adds some variety to Fallout 4’s gun-play.
It will save your lucky ass during an ambush and deliver more of those Epic Fallout-style conflict resolutions.

Bigger Better Bloody Messes – EXPLAINED

The design of the “Bloody Mess Nearby Spell” is a little complicated but also very interesting.
It is cool to see remnants of Skyrim code in Fallout, but for the sake of Fallout Lore I am going to refer to it as the Shrapnel Effect.
I will attempt to explain it the same way I understand it.

=====================================================
================Bloody Mess (Ranks 1-3)==============
=====================================================
====Dismember Effect====
EVERY KILL-SHOT rolls for a:
67% chance to DISMEMBER that enemy’s body part.
====Explode Effect====
If you lose the “Dismember Effect” roll, the game will re-roll for a
67% chance to EXPLODE that enemy’s body part.
====
If you lose both times, no animation is applied.

=====================================================
=================Bloody Mess (Rank 4)=================
=====================================================
SHRAPNEL EFFECT – Phase 1
Roll 1a = 67% chance for the Dismember Effect.
Roll 1b = 67% chance for the Explode Effect.
If you win either one, the limb will be set to dismember or explode and the game will re-roll for a chance to trigger the Shrapnel Effect.

SHRAPNEL EFFECT – Phase 2
Roll 2a = 40% chance to trigger the Shrapnel Effect if the Dismembered or Exploded Limb was INTACT before the kill-shot.
Roll 2b = 60% chance to trigger the Shrapnel Effect if the Dismembered or Exploded Limb was CRIPPLED before the Kill-shot.
Roll 2c = 75% chance to trigger the Spell if the Dismembered or Exploded Limb was shot in V.A.T.S.
If you win any of these, you roll again to determine the type of Shrapnel Effect.

SHRAPNEL EFFECT – Phase 3
Roll 3a = If the original target was Dismembered, 60% chance to Dismember ALL nearby enemies.
Roll 3b = If the original target Exploded, 67% chance to Explode ALL nearby enemies.
If you lose both of these, you roll one more time.

SHRAPNEL EFFECT – Phase 4
Roll 4a = The Shrapnel Effect will Dismember 75% of nearby enemies.
25% of enemies in AOE will be spared and remain intact.

=====================================================================================
Fun Facts!!!

You AND your companion share your Bloody Mess Shrapnel Effect!
Their bullets roll for the Dismember, Explode and Shrapnel Effects as well.
This allows them to be somewhat useful in combat.
So give them an automatic and make it rain!

If you line up enemies, you can kill 2+ enemies with one round!
So get into the right angle and make each round count.

Grenades & Weapons with the Explosive Legendary Modification have a higher chance of triggering the Shrapnel Effect!
Because, f##k yeah, that’s why.

Robots, Animals and Insects are ALSO affected by this Perk!
3 Deathclaws, 1 bullet.

There’s now a 90% chance that YOU WILL BE DISMEMBERED upon your death!
Because you probably deserved it 😉

============================ FAQ =============================
============================================================================
“Do we need to remove then add the perks again if we already have ’em ? or just install & play ??”
Nope. Alteration to your character will not be necessary.
Simply overwrite the Bloody Mess Perk’s default bonuses with B.B.B.M. using
N.M.M and check ranks 3 & 4 of the perk chart when you open the
game. If the perk description changed to +18% DMG (Rank 3) and +25% DMG
(Rank 4), then the changes have been applied correctly.

“Will shooting limbs off cause the other enemy’s limbs to be dismembered?”
It really depends on your Luck, pun intended.
Phase 3 of the spell, determines if it will inflict the same
type of injury. So if you shoot an enemy in the leg and WIN that dice
roll, everybody elses kneecaps will get blown off.
If you lose that phase you re-roll in Phase 4 for a “general dismemberment” which will
dismember random limbs off of their friends.

============================ Compatibility =============================
============================================================================

Bigger Better Bloody Messes is a small file so it should work fine with most mods.

Load this BEFORE any Blood Texture mods like:
Enhanced Blood Textures by dDefinder
Moar Gore by Troy Irving

Load this AFTER any Explosion Mods like:
Mega Explosions by Meltus

Load this AFTER any other Perk mods

============================================================================
============================ Performance =============================
============================================================================
Due to the sudden generation of objects and particles during the Shrapnel Effect,
you may have a temporary 5%-15% hit in frame rate depending on your rig.
I stress-tested this mod with 60 other various mods enabled, and ran the effect on dozens of NPCs.
I experienced AT MAXIMUM a 15% hit to my FR. [GTX 970] The game itself rarely generates that many enemies so your FR should be fine during normal game-play.

===========================================================================
======================== Future Updates =======================
============================================================================
1. Apply your Critical Weapon Effect to Bloody Mess Shrapnel event.
The goal is to turn entire groups of enemies into Goo piles or Ash Piles.
2. Apply 3D Ricochet sound effect when Bloody Mess Shrapnel event occurs.
The goal is to add an audio cue for your “magic bullet/shrapnel.”
3. All Critical Attack kill-shots trigger Bloody Mess Shrapnel Events.
Outnumbered? The goal is to use your critical in V.A.T.S and have a guaranteed Magic Bullet.
